Current Clubs and Extra-curricular
activities at DSST include:
- Chemistry Club - Advisor: Jodi Crutchfield crutchfield.jodi@scienceandtech.org Chemistry Club is for students who enjoy the shear pleasure of watching chemical reactions, conducting experiments and the discovery of chemistry. Students decide which demonstrations to conduct, manage their lab space and perform shows for the school. This is a great club to join if you love conducting experiments.
- Go Green Club - Advisor: Kate Dresher dresher.kate@scienceandtech.org
The Go Green club was established in 2007 to educate, take action and involve the community on environmental issues. The challenge is to live a true sustainable existence, but how do we achieve that? Go Green focuses on five important issues: Energy, Water, Recycling, Transportation/Fuel and Bicology. Projects and presentations will take place throughout the school year to educate and challenge the community and their families. We have to become a creative force and pay attention to our resources. There is a strong need to live in harmony with the planet and be able to celebrate abundance without limitations.
- Mock Trial Elective - Advisor: Molly Lepore lepore.molly@scienceandtech.org The Colorado Bar Association's High School Mock Trial Program is a positive academic program that gives students an opportunity to expand their speaking, writing, reading, and analytical skills while learning about the judicial system. Every team prepares a published case with opportunities to compete at the regional, state, and national level. This is DSST's third year of competing in the program. The first year, DSST received “The Most Professional Team” award.
- National Honor Society - Advisor: Molly Lepore lepore.molly@scienceandtech.org The DSST chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) recognizes students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. Our NHS students have a minimum GPA of 3.5/4 and a minimum Core Value grade of 4.0/5.0.
- Outdoor Athletic Club - Advisor: Jim Stephens stephens.jim@scienceandtech.org
- Robotics - Advisor: Cory Hofschild hofschild.cory@scienceandtech.org The robotics team participates in a regional competition each spring when the students design and build a robot (with the help of mentors) that performs a certain task or function. Each year the focus of the competition changes and the students learn engineering principles and how to work as a team to build a functional and competitve robot. The team has occasional meetings throughout the school year but most of their time is spent building the robot after winter break until the competition during spring break. The team's goal this year is to win the regional competition and make it to the national championship in Atlanta!
- Student Council - Advisor: Denise Desmoineaux desmoineaux.denise@scienceandtech.org The student council (SC) of DSST is an organization with the purpose of representing the student body. Our duty is to work cooperatively with the teaching and administrative staff to create a positive school environment for the students of DSST including dances, events, community service projects, dress down days, school spirit activities, and to bring forward other like initiatives relating to student life. As with all extra-curricular activities, the faculty and staff of DSST reserve the right to review and oversee SC actions and decisions in the best interests of the DSST community. Each year, the newly elected SC will approve the by-laws for that school year, which will remain in effect for that school year.
